The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu informs the Filipino and Filipino-American Community in Hawaii that the US Geological Survey-Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (USGS-HVO) has announced that an eruption has started from the summit of Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island.

As of 15 May 2025, USGS-HVO raised Kilauea volcano’s alert level to “Watch” and the aviation color code to “Orange,” following the appearance of tall lava fountains inside the Halemaumau Crater, within the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This activity follows a series of smaller gas-driven bursts and remains safely contained within the park.

At this time, no residential areas are in danger. However, the public is advised to monitor developments on Kilauea volcano and stay informed by regularly checking for official updates from the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and the USGS-HVO websites. The community should follow the advice of local authorities to ensure their safety. END
