Greetings from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas!
We are pleased to inform you that preparations are underway for the conduct of the Online Ugnayan sa Hawaii 2020 (via Zoom and FB Live), on 21 November 2020 (Saturday), 04:00 – 05:30 pm (Hawaii Time). The CFO developed the Ugnayan as part of its mandate and commitment to strengthen ties and relations with Filipino community overseas. Ugnayan serves as a platform to familiarize overseas Filipinos about the programs and services of CFO, and discuss the problems and issues of OFs that need government intervention, as well as means of cooperation for diaspora engagement. The program supports the policy pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte on bringing government services closer to overseas Filipinos and their families. It also aims to address the limitation of the Commission in reaching out to overseas Filipinos, having no physical presence and office abroad.
While the previous Ugnayan is a series of face-to-face meetings with Filipino community and leaders, this year’s Ugnayan will be conducted online, webinar style. This is in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, where online service has become the “new normal”. The Ugnayan theme will revolve around the effects of the pandemic to overseas Filipinos under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Consulate General in Hawaii, and how the Philippine government could assist them.
