23 November 2022, Hawaii, USA – Consul General Emil Fernandez and University of Hawaii Foundation (UHF) Chief Executive Officer Tim Dolan signed today the Gift Agreement for the Philippine Studies Program of the University of Hawaii (UH) at Manoa.
The agreement involves the donation of PhP 5 million from the Philippine Government to increase the provision of scholarships and fellowships for students pursuing Philippine Studies, the procurement of Filipiniana materials, and support for research and publications about the Philippines, among others.
The grant was made possible through the congressional initiative of Senator Loren Legarda, a champion for the promotion of Philippine arts and culture. In her message, which was read during the ceremony by Consul Grace Bulos, Senator Legarda said “The Philippines and the United States of America have long been committed to build on their rich and longstanding historical ties based on strong cultural linkages and a shared commitment to democracy and human rights. The Philippine Studies Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa will highlight the relevance of the academe in enhancing our countries’ relations and opening opportunities for more collaboration in various fields.” (END)
