3 February 2023, Honolulu – Consul General Emil Fernandez extends his congratulations to Major General Roy Macaraeg, who was the first Filipino American to attain the rank of general officer in the history of the Hawaii Army National Guard.  Governor Josh Green hosted yesterday at his official residence, known as Washington Place, a ceremony for the candidate’s promotion from brigadier general to major general. Major General Kenneth Hara, Adjutant General for the State of Hawaii, administered the oath of office, while Governor Green provided remarks.  During his 32 years of service, Major General Macaraeg has held posts at the Pentagon and undertaken deployments to Iraq, Kuwait and Kosovo.  Consul General Fernandez attended the event along with the Filipino American soldier’s Hawaii-based family, friends, and current and retired colleagues in the Guard and active duty.
