19 April 2023, Honolulu – Representatives of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, led by Consul General Emil Fernandez, traveled to the U.S. territory of American Samoa in the South Pacific to extend much needed consular services to Filipinos residing in the island.

The consular outreach team attended to the needs of over 200 Filipinos during the 3-day mission. They were also joined by Labor Attaché Macy Monique Maglanque and Mr. Hamdan Sayedy of the Migrant Workers Office - Los Angeles (MWO-LA). Information desks by the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Wage and Hour Division (WHD) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and MWO-LA were likewise available for consultations during the mission.

During the Consulate’s visit, a forum was held with the Filipino community members to discuss consular and labor concerns. This included a question-and-answer session to respond to pressing queries from the American Samoa-based Filipinos.

Providing crucial assistance to the Consulate were the officers of the Filipino Community in American Samoa, led by Mr. Caloy Banting and Ms. Nemia Aguirre, proprietor of Shan-J restaurant, which served as the venue of the activity.

Consul General Fernandez was assisted by Vice Consul Leizel Caasi, Consular Assistants Hermogenes Cayabyab, Jr., Abigail Ramos, Elaine Justine Aldaya, and Joel Bulos. (END)
