15 June 2023, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA – Consul General Emil Fernandez received Consul General Lee Seo Young of the Republic of Korea (ROK) at the Philippine Consulate General last 14 June.   Consul General Lee arrived in Honolulu last May, replacing Consul General Hong Seok-in. Discussions between the two officials focused on the status of the Philippines and Korea’s relations with the United States and geo-political developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

Consul General Lee is a retired military officer, who served as Defense Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington D.C.  He is a graduate of the Korea Military Academy and the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, and holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the Yonsei University in Seoul and a Master of Science in Management from the Troy State University in Alabama.

The Philippines and ROK have strong bilateral ties.  South Korea is the Philippines’ top source of tourists and a leading trade partner and source of investments. (END)
