26 June 2023, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA – Consul Grace Bulos offered a wreath on behalf of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu during the 73rd Korean War Commemoration Ceremony held last June 25 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Punchbowl, Honolulu. The event, which was co-organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Honolulu and Korean War Veterans Association Hawaii Chapter 1, honored some 30 Korean War veterans present at the ceremony.
Of the thousands of Americans who were deployed to serve in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, the Korean government estimates that over 450 military service men and women from Hawaii were killed in action. It is estimated that about 160 Korean War veterans live across the state.
The Philippines also contributed 7,420 service members to the war effort. Filipino forces suffered 448 casualties, including 92 members killed in action and 356 wounded in action during the war. (END)
