13 September 2023, Honolulu – Consul General Emil Fernandez was conferred as Knight Commander of Rizal (3rd degree) by the Supreme Council and the Council of Elders of the Knights of Rizal (KOR), led by Sir Gerardo Calderon, KGCR Supreme Commander, during the KOR-Western USA’s 9th Regional Assembly in Honolulu last September 3. The biennial conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki with the theme, “Foster the Youth Toward Rizalism.” Members from KOR chapters in Europe, North America, Asia and the Philippines were among the dignitaries present.
KOR is a civic organization created to honor and uphold the ideals of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Since its founding in 1911, the Order has grown to over 25,000 members belonging to 192 active chapters in the Philippines and around the world, including Hawaii. Prominent recipients of its awards and decorations include past Philippine presidents, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, cabinet secretaries, chief justices, national artists and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
