13 February 2024, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA – Philippine Consul General Emil Fernandez (standing left in photo) received Mr. Ramon Martin “Rama” Olivares Co, a graduate student from Ateneo de Manila who is currently in Hawaii upon the invitation of the East West Center (EWC).
On 16 February, Mr. Co will present his research paper titled “The Mailed Fist and the Invisible Hand: Territorializing Commerce in a Moro Marketplace, 1904-1913” at the 23rd International Graduate Student Conference organized by the EWC. The Conference, which will take place on 14-17 February at the EWC, welcomes graduate students from around the world to share interdisciplinary perspectives formally through research paper presentations, and informally in the multi-cultural environment of the EWC.
Mr. Co earned his Bachelor of Arts in Letters and Philosophy from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and is currently taking his Master of Arts in History at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Mr. Co and Consul General Fernandez shared views on various issues affecting the Philippines. Consul General Fernandez gave an overview of the Philippine Consulate’s economic and cultural diplomacy, consular and assistance to nationals (ATN) services, the profile of the Filipino community in Hawaii, and overall Philippine foreign relations.
