12 April 2024, Honolulu – A delegation from the Philippine Army (PA) called on Consul General Emil Fernandez (3rd from left) yesterday during their visit in Hawaii to participate in the PA-U.S. Army Pacific Intelligence Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE). Heading the group was Colonel Edmund Paul de los Santos (3rd from right), who was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Gualberto, Lieutenant Colonel Rudy Esico and Major Rene Datugan.  Colonel Jay Baquiran, Assistant Armed Forces of the Philippines Liaison Officer to USINDOPACOM, also joined the call.

The SMEE is among the activities being undertaken by the Philippine and U.S. armies under the Salaknib annual bilateral exercise.  Salaknib 2024 was opened at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija last April 8. The exercise is designed to enhance the two armies’ capacity and interoperability across the spectrum of military operations, including field training, live-fire exercises, and the sharing of best practices in several key areas.  (END)
