26 April 2024, Honolulu – Members of the Filipino community in Hawaii joined relatives and other friends of the late Emme Tomimbang-Burns at a Catholic mass held today at the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace for the pioneering broadcast journalist.  Consul General Emil Fernandez was among those who filled the church, personally extending his condolences to Ms. Tomimbang-Burns’ family, including his brother, Tom, and nephew, Elias.

Ms. Tomimbang-Burns was an inspiring figure in Hawaii and a distinguished member of the Filipino community. Her journey from a media icon to a devoted philanthropist left behind a legacy that extends far beyond her professional achievements. Her contributions to education and health exemplify her dedication to uplift the lives of others and open doors for future generations.  Emme, as she is known to friends, possessed an unwavering spirit and compassionate heart, and her impact will endure in the lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace.  (END)
