Waialua High and Intermediate School Bayanihan Club with officers of the Philippine Consulate.

14 May 2024, Honolulu – The Philippine Consulate General welcomed members of the Bayanihan Club of the Waialua High and Intermediate School (WHIS, offering the students a deeper connection to their Filipino roots. The visit was part of the Consulate’s ongoing efforts to engage with second and third-generation Filipino-Americans in Hawaii.

The group explored with enthusiasm various sections of the Consulate including the Consular Annex and Sentro Rizal. They were particularly captivated by the exhibit on the Philippine flag, which provided a rich context for understanding their cultural heritage.

Accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Margie Navarte, and  Head Security and Assistant Athletic Director, Mr. Anthony Neri, the students received a warm welcome from Consul Pamela Durian-Bailon, Consul Grace Anne Bulos, and Vice Consul Leizel Caasi. 

A highlight of the visit was a short video presentation that chronicled the history of the Consulate and celebrated the achievements of the Filipino diaspora in Hawaii. This was followed by an interactive session with the Consulate’s officers on the political, economic, cultural and consular functions of the mission, as well as a discussion on Philippine history, culture, education, and current regional developments.

The students shared their aspirations and the activities of the Bayanihan Club, which include art exhibits, donation drives, and other educational projects aimed at fostering a sense of community and cultural pride. (END)

Consul Pamela Durian-Bailon, Consul Grace  Anne Bulos and Vice Consul Leizel Caasi discussed several topics about the Philippines including history, culture, education and politics, as well as answered questions on consular matters such as passports and dual citizenship.
