21 May 2024, Honolulu –  The strength and depth of the Philippines-United States alliance was highlighted in the discussion between Philippine Consul General Emil Fernandez and Admiral Samuel Paparo, new Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (US INDOPACOM), during the Consul General’s courtesy call on the latter.

Admiral Paparo assumed command last May 3, taking over the helm of the US military’s largest combatant command from his predecessor, Admiral John C. Aquilino. Consul General Fernandez noted the Philippines’ increased collaboration with INDOPACOM and its unified combatant commands on various areas of the two countries’ defense and security cooperation.  The two officials committed to continue their close relationship toward the pursuit of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, together with regional allies and partners.

Following his meeting with Admiral Paparo, Consul General met with Lieutenant General William Jurney, Commander of the US Marine Forces Pacific, whose headquarters are also located in the same military installation.

The two officials discussed the ongoing activities between the Philippines and US marine forces, including the recently concluded Balikatan that saw a record number 17,500 participating Filipino and American soldiers. (END)
