17 June 2024, Honolulu – The Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii (PCCCH), in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate, staged another festive and memorable gala last June 15 to mark the Philippines’ Independence Day.
Close to 300 Filipino guests and their American friends trooped to the regal Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, many dressed in their terno and barong tagalog. The affair witnessed spectacular cultural performances including the country’s popular tinikling and pandanggo sa ilaw. A special show was also rendered by renowned artist, Kristian Lei, known for starring as Kim in the German production of “Miss Saigon.”
Consul General Emil Fernandez, Representative Ed Case and Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke delivered remarks during the event, with the three officials citing the strides and contributions made by the Filipino community in Hawaii. Rep. Case conferred a “Special Congressional Recognition” to the outgoing Philippine Consul General for his “leadership and outstanding service.” A video, produced by Jerome Adarna of Visionary Views, was likewise shown highlighting the Consulate’s work in the political, economic, cultural and consular fields the past two years.
Among the other distinguished guests in attendance were Labor and Industrial Relations Department Director Jade Butay, State Senator Henry Aquino, State Representative Rachele Lamosao, State Representative Rose Martinez and former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann. (END)
