10 July 2024, Honolulu – Consul Pamela Durian-Bailon briefed 90 newly-arrived teachers from the Philippines on the Philippine Consulate’s consular and assistance-to-nationals services at the J-1 Teachers Orientation organized by the Hawaii Department of Education (DOE) today.
The teachers, garbed in their Filipiniana attire, joins the earlier group who arrived in Hawaii in 2023 under the same Exchange Program spearheaded by the DOE. They will be assigned to teach in schools in different islands. The orientation program included presenters from non-profit organizations and vendors providing services such as banking, medical, and tele-communications. Representatives from several Filipino-American organizations also introduced their group and activities.
Consul Bailon also encouraged the teachers to register as overseas voters so that they could exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Philippine national elections. She stressed the value of voting not just as a civic duty, but also as a way of helping make a difference in the lives of Filipinos. (END)
