PRESS RELEASE NO. 136-2024

Philippine Consulate General officers and staff don orange shirts with the slogan “VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras” to raise awareness and support the campaign to end violence against women and children.

26 November 2024, Honolulu – Acting Head of Post Pamela F. Durian-Bailon (first row, 3rd from right) led the personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu in supporting the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) observed from November 25 to December 12. To mark their commitment, the personnel wore orange shirts, the campaign’s signature color symbolizing a future free from violence against women and girls.

The campaign is observed annually as mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 1172 s. 2006. The 2022-2027 recurring campaign theme, “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines” along with the 2024 sub-theme, “VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras!” highlights the urgency of the advocacy in line with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Anti-VAWC Act of 2004 (RA 9262).

The 2024 18-Day End VAW Campaign aims to:

1. Raise public awareness about the various forms and impact of VAW and encourage safe, effective interventions in preventing and addressing VAW;
2. Encourage individuals, communities, and government to work together to create a comprehensive response to VAW with a strong focus on prevention; and
3. Empower survivors by disseminating information on available support services and resources, fostering a society that empowers survivors to seek justice and rebuild their lives.

Heeding the “VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras” (End VAW, Now is the Time) call, may each of us become advocates for women and children, and support them in attaining their fullest potential.
