09 January 2025, Honolulu – Acting Head of Post Pamela Durian-Bailon welcomed to the Consulate Ms. Patricia de Peralta and Ms. Teresita Peralta, who turned over a copy of the book “Enriqueta de Peralta - A Woman Ahead of Her Time” for the Consulate’s Sentro Rizal library.
Ms. de Peralta and Ms. Peralta are grand daughters of the late Enriqueta de Peralta (15 July 1882 - 13 April 1940), an Ilocana poet, civic leader, social worker, and advocate for women’s rights. The book, which was commissioned by the International Professional Association of Dingras (IPAD), features a collection of her literary works and her many accomplishments, and offers a look at her profound influence on literature and social causes and her pioneering role in championing women’s rights.
In recognition of her work, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) installed a historical marker in her honor in Dingras. Her remarkable life and contributions are being taught in schools in the Ilocos Region under a Department of Education (DepEd) module that emphasizes the role of women in nurturing nationalism. (END)
