15 April 2025, Honolulu – Vice Consul Leizel Caasi and the consular outreach team visited some Filipino-owned businesses in Kauai to learn more about the local market and extend support where needed.

Among the stores visited were Orly Patisserie, owned by veteran Pastry Chef Orly Yadao, which offers gourmet flavors, such as ube and lilikoi. Chef Yadao, with over 30 years of experience in making pastries and other sweet treats, has made the patisserie a favorite destination for locals and visitors in Kauai. Orly Patisserie is located at 4454 Nuhou St., Unit 507 in Lihue, Kauai.

The team also visited TJ Variety Store, owned by Patricia Alicante. According to Ms. Alicante, Filipino products continue to be popular among locals, especially those with Filipino descent. She emphasized the importance of high quality customer service, which allowed them to establish a loyal customer base. TJ Variety Store is located at 3-3257 Kuhio Hwy, #101 in Lihue.

Meanwhile, Ms. Normie Flores of Rose’s Pinoy Favorites shared that many visitors from the US mainland purchase the Filipino products available at the store. Food products, such as chicharon, buchiron, and bangus chips continue to be in demand. Rose’s Pinoy Favorites is located at Kukui Grove Center (3-2600 Kaumualii Hwy suite E06) in Lihue.

Lastly, the outreach team stopped by Island Treats and Gift Shop, which offers delicious shaved ice treats, featuring tropical fruits such as mango, coconut, and lilikoi. The shop also sells a wide variety of souvenir products, which tourists may bring home as pasalubong. At certain times of the month, the shop serves ihaw ihaw and Filipino food, to the delight of Filipino crewmembers from visiting cruise ships. Island Treats and Gift Shop is located at 3486 Rice St. in Lihue.
