14 May 2025, Honolulu – Consul General Arman R. Talbo welcomed University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa faculty members Dr. Pia Arboleda, Dr. Patricia Halagao, Dr. Vina Lanzona, Dr. Lorenzo Perillo, Dr. Jayson Parba, and Ms. Marnelli Ulep at the Philippine Consulate last 7 May to explore potential avenues for partnerships and collaborations between the Consulate and the University’s academic community. 

During the meeting, the Consul General and faculty members discussed a wide range of initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between the Consulate and UH Mānoa’s faculty, students and academe. The conversation focused on ways the Consulate could support ongoing and future initiatives through mentorship programs, community outreach, and cultural enrichment efforts, and academic exchange programs. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of fostering leadership and representation of Filipinos across important sectors, including education, business, and politics.

Consul General Talbo reaffirmed the Consulate’s full support for CPS’s academic and cultural endeavors. He expressed enthusiasm for expanding joint projects between the Philippine Consulate General and the Center, as well as other groups within the University, particularly those that promote Philippine education, arts, and culture. 

Also joining the call were Vice Consul Leizel Caasi and Cultural Officer Mia Gaspar.

Dr. Patricia Halagao and Dr. Lorenzo Perillo, Co-Directors of the Center for Philippine Studies (CPS), shared plans for the Center’s upcoming 50th Anniversary celebration. Among the highlighted events are an Art and Culture Exhibit, the iJeepney Launch, a Philippine Rare Collection Tour, a Filipino Dance Production, and the publication of a Center for Philippine Studies Anthology. These events aim to showcase the richness of Philippine heritage and its global relevance, especially within the diaspora. More details on this may be found here:
