Consul General Talbo highlights the importance of programs, such as FYLPRO, to help young leaders competently navigate U.S. and Philippine businesses and society.

16 May 2025, Honolulu – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu hosted the official launch of the 2025 Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) Immersion Program on  May 15, underscoring its continued support for initiatives that engage and empower the next generation of Filipino leaders in the US.

Consul General Arman R. Talbo welcomed the participants and highlighted the program’s role in promoting leadership, strengthening Filipino identity, and fostering deeper ties between Filipino American youth and their cultural roots. FYLPRO plays a vital part in cultivating young leaders who are committed to advancing their communities both locally and globally.

Dr. Paranal moderated a fireside chat Dr. Calisay, Atty. Wong, and Mr. Abanto, who served as panelists. 

A key feature of the event was a thematic “fireside chat” titled “Why Fil-Ams Matter to the Philippines, and Why the Philippines Matters to Fil-Ams,” moderated by FYLPRO Executive Vice President Dr. Constancio Paranal III. The panel featured accomplished community leaders Dr. Melody Calisay, President of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and owner of East West Marketing; Atty. Nanor Wong, Staff Attorney at The Legal Clinic; and Mr. Jordan Abanto, Academic Advisor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The engaging discussion explored diverse topics including economic development, entrepreneurship, political participation, tourism, and civic responsibility.  

Also in attendance were notable FYLPRO alumni, including Hawai‘i State Representative Trish La Chica (District 37) and Mr. Brandon Dela Cruz of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. They shared how their involvement in the program has enriched both their personal growth and professional development. This year’s cohort will constitute the 12th batch of the week-long FYLPRO immersion program delegates to the Philippines. (END)
