Lim, Brand Specialist of Marigold Manufacturing Corporation (standing rightmost) and the students of University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Filipino and Philippine Literature Program
(23 July 2019, Honolulu, Hawaii) The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu supported the University of Hawaii Manoa (UHM) Center for Philippine Studies in its efforts to promote Philippine culture through the latter’s workshop entitled “Mga Kwentong Pagkain” held on 19 July 2019. The main participants in the workshop were students of UHM’s Filipino and Philippine Literature Program.
Mr. Philip T. Lim, Brand Specialist of Marigold Manufacturing Corporation (Mama Sita’s) was the guest presenter during the workshop. He showed the video presentation entitled “A Philippine Flavor Journey” and a slideshow on the culinary history of the Philippines based on the research of Ms. Felice Sta. Maria, Philippine culinary historian and author of “The Governor-General’s Kitchen.” Both presentations showed how Philippine cuisine was shaped by local customs and traditions as well as influences of other cultures throughout the nation’s history.
A Philippine food culture artwork activity highlighted the workshop, wherein participants created drawings depicting their view of Philippine cuisine.
Mr. Lim presented Mama Sita cookbooks and products to the winners of the “Most Popular Artworks”
Deputy Consul General Angelica C. Escalona took the opportunity to update the workshop participants on Post’s cultural and community activities, including the successful Philippine Food Week last June and the launching of the Filipino Young Professionals Network in December 2018. Participants were encouraged to support Post’s upcoming activities, and “give a stronger voice” to the Filipino community in Hawaii. (END)
