(6 May 2017, Honolulu, Hawaii)- As part of the National Heritage Month celebration, the Philippine Consulate General participated in the much-anticipated 27th Filipino Fiesta, which was held on 4 May 2019 at the Kaka’ako Gateway Park, Honolulu, Hawaii.
The 27th Annual Filipino Fiesta celebrates the traditional Philippine Flores de Mayo festival — or Flowers of May — and is Hawaii’s largest showcase of Filipino culture. In 2019, the event had the theme “Pinasaya. It’s more fun!”
Around 10,000 Hawaii residents and tourists attended the Filipino Fiesta, which featured 50 booths promoting Philippine food, culture, businesses and community organizations.
On stage, traditional Filipino dances and live musical performances provided entertainment the whole day, while a Sunduan parade with ladies and gentlemen wearing colorful traditional Philippine attire was held at the park grounds.
The Philippine Consulate General set up a booth where consular forms and tourism and trade materials were handed out to interested individuals by Consulate personnel. It also provided information on overseas voting for the 2019 Philippine National Elections and promoted the Filipino Food Week, which will take place on 9-15 June 2019. Visitors, particularly the young Filipino-Americans, gamely participated in the “Pinoy Henyo Wheel” game by singing, dancing and playing different Filipino songs, dances and games. Alumni of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) and members of the Filipino Young Professionals Network of Hawaii assisted in doing the “Pinoy Henyo Wheel”. (END)
