(2 May 2019, Honolulu, Hawaii) – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu participated in the Kalihi Uka Elementary School Filipino Day 2019 on 1 May 2019. Kalihi Uka Elementary School has 250 students, many of whom are of Filipino descent.
Consulate personnel headed by Deputy Consul General Angelica C. Escalona set up a booth where they displayed English and bilingual English/Tagalog children’s books, brochures on the Philippines, cultural materials and NCCA paper craft models of famous sights in the Philippines. After the Filipino Day, the Consulate donated the books to the school’s library.
During the Filipino Day, the Fil-Am Club of Farrington High School gave a lively performance of the Pandanggo sa Ilaw, Sayaw sa Bangko and Tinikling. The Hawaii Derobio Escrima Academy also provided a demonstration of stick and hand fighting techniques of the Philippine martial art eskrima.
