PRESS RELEASE - 22 - 2019
(10 April 2019, Honolulu, Hawaii) – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu organized another Kapihan sa Konsulado last 9 April 2019 at the conference room of the Philippine Consulate General. The topic of the Kapihan is mainstreaming Filipino food. Emmy Award Winning Host, Lanai Tabura was the guest speaker. During the event, Lanai shared his views on Filipino cuisine, the potential it has in Hawaii, his Pride4PH Project, and how various stakeholders can contribute in spreading the love for Filipino food to a wider audience. The Consulate also discussed its plans for Filipino Food Week (FFW) Hawaii and gathered feedback from its community partners.
The Filipino Food Week will take place from June 9-15, 2019. Participation to the week-long event is open to Filipino and mainstream restaurants as well as chefs who are interested to do restaurant pop-ups and kamayans in private houses or other venues located in Oahu, Kauai, Maui, the Big Island and other areas within the Consulate’s jurisdiction. Participating establishments/chefs shall be given an ingredients basket containing Filipino food products which they can use in coming up with special dishes they will offer for the Filipino Food Week. These special menu items can be made available for lunch and dinner, snacks, happy hour, lunch/dinner only, or any other combination at the option of the participating establishments. Restaurants/chefs who are joining FFW are given the flexibility to come up with innovative menus, including whether to include drinks in the price or offer kamayan or set meals good for two or more persons. Since the theme of the Filipino Food Week this year is coconut, participating establishments must feature at least one food item which uses coconut as an ingredient. Tickets will be sold via Eventbrite or in-store by the participating establishments. Top selling establishment during the week-long event shall be awarded two (2) free roundtrip tickets to the Philippines courtesy of Philippine Airlines and special culinary tour from the Department of Tourism. The Consulate will be organizing a Kamayan Lunch preview together with the Filipino Junior Chamber at Dana’s Restaurant on April 27 to soft launch Filipino Food Week.
