(4 January 2019,  Honolulu, Hawaii) – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu in partnership with the Knights of Rizal Hawaii Chapter, commemorated the 122nd Death Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on 28 December 2018 at the Philippine Consulate General.

The program started with a flag raising and singing of the Philippine National Anthem by Consulate personnel, Knights of Rizal Hawaii Chapter, and members of the Filipino community.

In his Rizal Day message, Consul General Joselito A. Jimeno said that the teachings of the national hero remain applicable to Filipinos today. Noting Dr. Rizal’s belief that the youth is the hope of the future, the Consul General emphasized the need to empower young Filipino-Americans in Hawaii as they represent the future of the State.

Knights of Rizal-Hawaii Chapter Commander Sir Danny Villaruz also delivered a message. He said that Dr. Rizal’s life is a constant reminder for us to fulfill our duties to our country and to lead in making a better tomorrow for future generations.

The ceremony was capped by a wreath laying at the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal by Consul General Jimeno and Colonel Joseph Archog, AFP Liaison to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, followed by an offering of a lei by the Knights of Rizal. END
