(12 November 2018, Honolulu, Hawaii) – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu arranged a meeting with the Hawaii-based alumni of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO). FYLPRO was established in 2012 in cooperation with the Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI) to annually identify ten (10) outstanding young professionals in the Filipino communities across the United States and provide them with invaluable community, business, and government exposure with the hopes that they can lead positive change in their communities in the US. For the past seven (7) years, Hawaii has produced eight (8) participants to the FYLPRO which includes Ms. Kit Zulueta (2012), Mr. Randy Cortez (2013), Mr. Mike Dahilig (2014), Mr. Ty Cullen (2015), Mr. Brandon dela Cruz (2016), Ms. Elizabeth Obod Frilles (2016), Mr. Tyler Dos Santos-Tam (2017), and Maj. Charlynne Mae McGinnis (2018).
Ms. Frilles and Maj. McGinnis attended the meeting with Consul General Joselito Jimeno, Deputy Consul General Angelica Escalona, and Vice Consul Andrea Christina Caymo. The FYLPRO delegates shared about their experience and insights gained from their participation in FYLPRO. During the meeting, the Consulate and FYLPRO delegates brainstormed about programs that will help empower the young Filipinos in Hawaii. As a result of the meeting, the Consulate will spearhead the creation of a Young Filipino Network in Hawaii which will be launched in January with the assistance of the FYLPRO alumni.
The Consulate will continue to engage the second and third-generation Filipinos in Hawaii in developing a more cohesive and empowered Filipino community under its jurisdiction. (END)
