Members of the Kauai Filipino community welcomes Mayor Duterte-Carpio and her delegation

 

9 September 2018, Honolulu, Hawaii – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio arrived in Kauai on September 9, 2018 for the signing of the Sister City Agreement between the City of Davao and the County of Kauai. Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. of Kauai was present at

the airport to officially welcome Mayor Duterte-Carpio and her delegation. Members of the Filipino community also warmly greeted the Mayor in Kauai as well as in Honolulu where the Mayor transited for a few hours before her trip to Lihue, Kauai. Councilor Marissa Abella, City Tourism Operations Office OIC Ms. Regina Rosa Ferrazzini, City Agriculture Officer Mr. Leo Brian Leuterio, Investment and Promotions Center Officer Mr. Lemuel Ortonio, and members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) accompanied the Mayor during the trip.

The delegation from Davao will take part in a two-day work trip culminating with the signing of the Sister City Agreement between the two cities on 10 September 2018. Members of the delegation will also have the opportunity to interact with their administrative counterparts in Hawaii on how to further deepen their city’s partnership in the areas of tourism and culture, agriculture, and trade and commerce. They will also take part in a tree planting ceremony at the Kauai Philippine Cultural Center, a gathering place for the Filipino Community which is set to open in the latter part of the year. The Team will also get the chance to meet with local businessmen and visit one of Kauai’s biggest and most important employer, the Hawaii Coffee Company. All the activities and work meetings are expected to help both parties develop good relations and more concrete ideas on how to deepen the economic, political, social, and cultural ties of Davao and Kauai under the newly-forged Sister City Agreement.
