Philippine Consul General to Honolulu Hawaii Joselito A. Jimeno was the Guest of Honor during the 32nd Annual Convention and Anniversary Gala of the Congress of Visayan Organizations (COVO) on 4 August 2018 at the Hibiscus Ballroom, Ala Moana Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii.

COVO serves as the umbrella organization of all Visayan organizations in the State of Hawaii which aims to showcase the Visayan region’s, cultural traditions and customs and to assist in the development of all Visayans on their social, educational, political and livelihood aspects of their lives in Hawaii. This year’s celebration was hosted by the Dabawenyos of Hawaii.

Consul General Jimeno, in his remarks, reiterated the importance of unity among the Filipino American organizations in the State. Furthermore, he shared some of the Philippines’ major strategies and experiences under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. The Consul General also assured the guests that the Philippine Government under the Duterte administration is transparent and open in all means and all the time.

Other guests during the event were Hawaii State Department of Business Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) Director Luis Salaveria who presented a State Proclamation to COVO on behalf of State of Hawaii Governor David Ige, Mr. Firmo Dayao, City and County of Honolulu International Affairs and founding member and first President of COVO. - END
