Jimeno, shared her insights as a diplomat’s wife, and discussed the book, “Art as Reality: The Transition of Migrant Children in the Middle East, during the monthly luncheon meeting of the Filipino Association of University Women (FAUW) on 16 June 2018.

Published in 2013 by the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, Oman, the book, of which Madame Jimeno is Editor-in-Chief, is a collection of essays and artworks by children of Filipinos working in the Gulf countries of Bahain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman. The kids, ages 8 to 18, tell their stories of arriving, adjusting and thriving in environments and cultures that in many ways differ greatly from what they know and are accustomed to in the Philippines.

It was published at the time when Consul General Jimeno was the Philippine Ambassador to Oman.

The book received recognition from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) for its significant contribution in raising awareness of migration issues facing Filipinos abroad and awarded it best in print journalism book category during the Commission’s 2013 Migration Advocacy and Media (MAM) awards.

FAUW, a thirty-two year old organization committed to the promotion and preservation of Filipino culture in Hawaii organized the luncheon meeting. It was attended by over 30 individuals from the Filipino community, academe and staff of the Philippine Consulate General. (END).
