(5 April 2018, Honolulu, Hawaii) - As part of the Consulate’s mandate to enhance relations of the Philippines with external stakeholders, Consul General Joselito A. Jimeno met with officials of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI-APCSS) on 4 April 2018. Congen Jimeno was received by Rear Admiral (retired) Pete Gumataotao, Director of DKI-APCSS, and Brigadier General (retired) James Hirai, the Center’s Deputy Director. Consul General Jimeno was joined by Vice Consul Andrea Christina Caymo and Protocol Officer Jeffrey De Mesa.
DKI-APCSS is affiliated with the US Department of Defense and is the primary institute for the exchange of ideas among security professionals in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. It supports the US Pacific Command by providing an avenue for the US government to develop and sustain relationships with various stakeholders in the region, including those coming from the military, diplomats, government officials, think tanks, and other institutions.
Established in 1995, the Center has provided training to more than 10,300 civilians and military personnel from different parts of the region, including participants from the Philippines, who, based on Director Hirai’s account, is DKI-APCSS's largest and most active alumni network. Its programs are focused on fostering regional security, supporting the Center’s mission of “building capacities and communities of interest by educating, connecting, and empowering security practitioners to advance Asia-Pacific security”. Some of the courses it offers address topics on security cooperation, responses to terrorism, crisis management, and humanitarian assistance and disaster response. Non-traditional security issues including cyber, health, and water security are included in many of its course offerings. (END)
