Women leaders, led by Madame Araceli Jimeno (center-sitting), attend the Stakeholders Dialogue organized by the Consulate

(2 December 2019, Honolulu, Hawaii) – To support the Philippine government’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu hosted a Dialogue with Women Stakeholders on 26 November 2019 at MAC 24/7 at Hilton Waikiki Beach. The event was attended by representatives from various organizations including the Hawai’i State Commission on the Status of Women, Office of the Mayor of the County of Hawai’i, Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC), Consuelo Foundation, University of Hawaii- Center for Philippine Studies (CPS), Filipino American Multi-Ethnic Society (FAMES) Hawaii, Filipino Association of University Women (FAUW), Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii (FCCH), Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO), UST Alumni Association/ Ohana Medical Mission, reporters from KITV and Balitang America, business leaders, young professionals, and officers and staff of the Consulate.

The event is part of the Consulate’s initiatives to increase awareness on the issues faced by women and encourage various stakeholders to work for greater women empowerment, the protection of their rights and welfare, and address issues affecting them including wage gaps, discrimination, and gender-based violence. During the dialogue, participants also shared some of their organization’s best practices and provided ideas on possible collaborative programs and activities that various stakeholders can engage in. The Consulate encouraged the attendees to share information about their upcoming activities and create more programs for women such as information dissemination campaigns, public policy engagement, capacity-building programs, and other support services that will help address many of the issues faced by women in today’s society.
