PRESS RELEASE - 22 - 2020
(8 September 2020, Honolulu, Hawaii) – Executives of IT-Busines Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) companies promoted outsourcing and offshoring during the webinar on “Outsourcing Creative Services: Leveraging on cultural similarities between the Philippines and US to deliver timely and useful content” on 3 September 2020. Carlos Mori Rodriguez, Chief Innovation Officer of The EON Group, Tony Layug, Co-Founder and CEO of KDCI Outsourcing, and Mike Larcher, Founder and CEO of Outsourced served as resource speakers during the 4th installment of the eight-part “Global Business Processes Powered by the Philippines Webinar Series”. The online event is organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Centers (PTIC), Embassy and Consulates General of the Philippines in the United States. The webinar series aimed to promote the Philippines as the preferred destination for outsourcing and offshoring among small and medium-sized businesses in the United States.
Mori Rodriquez gave a presentation on what makes the Philippines an ideal creative outsourcing destination. According to Mr. Rodriguez, based on EON’s 2017 brand audit of the Philippine IT-BPM industry, the country’s talent pool is what makes the sector attractive. “Filipinos are determined, agile, and adaptable. They place a premium on customer service and are innovative and capable to meet the rapidly-evolving demands of the global community”, Mr. Rodriguez noted.
Tony Layug of KDCI presented different engagement models for outsourcing creative services. Mr. Layug mentioned that, “there are three (3) ways to engage the services of an outsourcing company: (1) one-off project work with specific scope of work and time frame, (2) monthly retainer arrangement, where company pays a blended hourly rate for a set number of hours per month, and (3) hiring of full-time equivalent (FTE), wherein a dedicated personnel is assigned to an account for a monthly fee per FTE.” Companies in the field of banking and finance, data and analytics, digital agencies, e-commerce, entertainment, food and beverage, health and wellness, online publishers, pharmaceuticals, retail, sports, and technology are the usual types of companies that outsource creative work.
Meanwhile, Mike Larcher of Outsourced expounded more on the FTE engagement model which is referred interchangeably as offshoring, outsourced staffing, remote staffing, or outstaffing. Under this arrangement, the offshoring company assists in recruiting the FTE, provides office space and equipment, as well as administrative support - with the hiring company exercising control and supervision of the output of the employee. On the question of why use Filipino talent, Mr. Larcher cited the “cultural similarities, the service-oriented culture and English language proficiency of Filipinos, and convenient time zone enabling the Philippines to supplement US work hours” as key factors why the Philippines is a good fit for companies in the US, UK, and Australia.
