PRESS RELEASE NO. 29 - 2020

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, 5 November 2020 – Philippine Consul General in Honolulu Joselito A. Jimeno reassured the Filipino community in Hawaii that it remains committed to serving the public despite the current challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his letter to the Filipino community written in Filipino, he says that the Consulate understands that many are concerned about the Philippine government’s current travel restrictions and explains that this is simply a temporary measure to address the pandemic.

According to current regulations, only Filipino nationals, their foreign spouses and minor children are among those allowed entry into the Philippines. The visa-free privilege and Balikbayan program, which was previously enjoyed by US nationals and former Filipinos, have been temporarily suspended. These have resulted in an increase in demand for travel-related consular services such as passport and visa applications. Many have also resorted to the dual citizenship route to be able to travel to the Philippines.

While the Consulate would like to accommodate all applications, Consul General Jimeno explains that the Consulate’s limited capacity have necessitated adjustments in procedures. He further said that there is a need balance public service with state health and safety protocols. He reassured the public of the Consulate’s commitment to service but also requested for clients’ understanding and patience.

He advised the public to regularly monitor updates on the Consulate’s services through its website https://honolulupcg.dfa.gov.ph/. END
