9 June 2015 - Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin visited the East West Center (EWC) in Honolulu on June 16 upon the invitation of its President, Dr. Charles E. Morrison, who briefed her on the Center’s history, programs and upcoming major projects.

Established by the US Congress in 1960, the EWC serves as a resource for information and analysis on critical issues of common concern and promotes better relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of the US, Asia and the Pacific through cooperative study, research and dialogue.

Over more than 50 years of serving as a US-based institution for public diplomacy in the Asia Pacific region, EWC has built a worldwide network of 62,000 alumni and more than 950 partner organizations.

Joining Dr. Morrison at the briefing were key officers of the Center: Ms. Mary Hammond, Dean of the Education Program; Ms. Karen Knudsen, Director of the Office of External Affairs; Dr. Gerard A. Finin, Resident Co-Director or the Pacific Islands Development Program; Mr. Eric Chang, Coordinator for the Arts Program; and Ms. Noreen Tanouye, Alumni Director of the Associates Office.

Consul General Jamoralin and EWC officers discussed possible collaborative partnerships between the Consulate General and the Center which include speaking engagements of visiting Philippine government officials, cultural projects and fellowship programs.

EWC is currently undertaking preparations for two of its upcoming major activities, namely, the Asia Pacific Dance Festival on July 12 to 26, of which the Ballet Philippines is one of its performers, and the East West Center Alumni Conference in Manila on January 15 to 17, 2016. END
