The 2016 Filipino Film Festival in Honolulu kicked off with an Opening Night on 2 April 2016 at the Honolulu Museum of Art and a showing of the film “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo, a biopic of Andres Bonifacio, the “Father of the Philippine Revolution”. The Festival runs from 2 to 16 April 2016.

The Opening Night was attended by Hawaii state officials, media, museum members and partner organizations, movie aficionados and members of the Filipino American community, who were treated to a cariñosa dance by the Bulacan Circle of Hawaii and Associates and an eskrima demonstration by Bandalan Doce Pares.

For the occasion, Max’s of Manila Restaurant prepared a special menu reminiscent of the food prepared during the inauguration of Andres Bonifacio as first President of the Philippine archipelago (Tagalog Republic).

In her remarks, Philippine Consul General to Honolulu, Hawaii Gina A. Jamoralin encouraged the audience to watch more Filipino movies as these perfectly mirror the rich, diverse and vibrant culture of the Philippines. She also invited the attendees to the Consulate General’s upcoming cultural events such as the Araw ng Kagitingan commemoration ceremony on 16 April 2016 and the Filipino Food Festival from 5 to 11 June 2016 in celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

Following are the ten (10) Filipino films which will be screened during the two-week Festival which will run from 2 to 16 April 2016:

4. Kid Kulafu
5. Ang Kubo sa Kawayanan (The House by the Bamboo Grove)
6. Above the Clouds
7. A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino
8. Dahling Nick
9. Sleepless
10. All You Need is Pag-ibig
