Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin of Honolulu, Hawaii called a press briefing on 4 April 2016, to inform Hawaii’s media on the 2016 Philippine national elections and the conduct of overseas voting.
Representatives of various media outlets in Hawaii from the print, television and radio were present: Allan Alvarez of Radio KPHI, Ms. Emmie Anderson of Radio KPRP, Cesar Bonilla of Radio KPRP 650 AM, Ms. Maribell Pabalan of KIKU Television, Mr. Flor Martinez and Gerry Malabed, Jr. of KNDI Radio, and Carolyn Weygan-Hildebrand of the Hawaii Filipino Chronicle.
Consul General Jamoralin called on the media to drum up participation in the electoral process from April 9 to May 9, 2016. She explained that the voting period for overseas Filipinos who registered for the 2016 elections ends on May 8 at 11:00 p.m. Hawaii time, which coincides with May 9 at 5:00 p.m. Philippine time. At stake are positions for President, Vice President, Senators and Party List.
Personal Voting: Registered voters residing in Oahu may vote in person at the Philippine Consulate General located at 2433 Pali Highway, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817 which will open daily including weekends to accept voters. A schedule of voting from April 9 to May 8, 2016 was distributed by the consulate to media.
Postal Voting: For voters residing outside of Oahu, which includes other Hawaiian Islands, American Samoa and French Polynesia, ballots will be mailed. Voters who receive their ballots by mail must mail back the filled up ballots to the consulate. The ballots must be received on or before May 8, 2016 at 11:00 p.m.
Ballots will be mailed to registered voters from Oahu who are not able to cast their votes in person at the consulate between April 9 to April 22, 2016. Voters receiving their ballots via mail should promptly fill up the ballots and mail them back to the consulate, which should receive the ballots on or before May 8, 2016, 11:00 p.m.
Field Voting: PCG also informed media that they will be conducting field voting in Maui on April 23, Hilo on April 24 and American Samoa on April 30. Voters from these islands who received their ballots by mail may bring their accomplished ballots to the field voting centers or mail them to the consulate on or before May 8, 2016 at 11:00 p.m.
