To express appreciation for their assistance in promoting activities and programs of the Philippine Consulate General, particularly in the information drive for the Philippine overseas voting from 9 April to 9 May 2016, Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin hosted a get-together of members of the Filipino media in Hawaii at the Philippine Consulate General on 7 September 2016.
Around twenty (20) individuals from Filipino and mainstream broadcast and print media attended the gathering. Representatives from the Consulate’s steady media partners from Filipino publications Fil-Am Courier and Hawaii Filipino Chronicle, radio stations KNDI, KPHI and KPRP, and TV station KIKU-TV, were present.
In her remarks Consul General Jamoralin conveyed the next activities of the Philippine Consulate such as the registration period for overseas voters from 1 December 2016 to 31 October 2018 and the mobile consular outreach activities of the Consulate. She also stressed the valuable role that the media plays in bringing information to Filipino Americans in the state and in shaping public opinion on a myriad of issues.
The attendees, upon the initiative of Mr. Joe Lazo, a retired radio announcer and esteemed Filipino community leader, formed a new organization, the Philippine Press Club of Hawaii, and elected their officers and board of directors. They also expressed their appreciation for the Consulate General’s continuous engagement with the Filipinos in Hawaii, which makes up the largest ethnic group in the state. END.
