Dr. Patricio N. Abinales, Director of the Center for Philippine Studies (CPS), University of Hawaii at Manoa, called on Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin on 22 September 2016. Joining Dr. Abinales was Ms. Clemen Montero, Ilocano and Tagalog Lecturer at the UH and Educational Specialist for the CPS.

The CPS was originally established as a Program in 1975 by an Act of the Hawaii State Legislature to recognize the contributions of Filipinos to the history of Hawaii and to highlight the academic expertise on the Philippines at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It was then established at the University of Hawaii as a Philippine Studies Program under the Asia Studies Program, which later became the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies.

During the courtesy call, Dr. Abinales, who earned his degree in History from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, and completed his Ph.D. in Government and Asian Studies in Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, discussed with the Consul General possible joint projects between the Center and the Philippine Consulate General, focusing on education and Philippine culture and the arts. They also discussed the upcoming International Symposium on Filipino Migration to be held on 8-9 October 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana, of which the Consul General and Ms. Montero will be participating in.
