Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin spoke at the 2016 Annual Dr. Jose Rizal Awards Gala organized by the Knights of Rizal – Hawaii Chapter led by its Chapter Commander Sir Mario Palma on September 24, 2016 at the Filipino Community Center, Waipahu, Hawaii.
She reaffirmed her appreciation for the invaluable role that the Knights of Rizal has been playing in keeping Rizalian values and ideals alive among the Filipino-American youth. She also thanked the Knights of Rizal – Hawaii Chapter for being a steady partner of the Philippine Consulate General in propagating Filipino culture and language.
On the occasion of Dr. Jose Rizal’s birthday on June 19, 2016, the Knights of Rizal-Hawaii Chapter in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate, University of Hawaii- Leeward Community College, National Commision of the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Rizalian Youth Council Hawaii, organized the Rizalian Education and Leadership Seminar – a two day event attended by FilAm youth studying in various high schools and colleges in Honolulu where they learned about the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal.
They also benefited from the books on Rizal donated by the NCCA for the event. The Knights of Rizal – Hawaii Chapter and the Philippine Consulate also conduct joint wreath laying ceremony every December 30th each year before the Rizal bust at the Philippine Consulate and the Rizal statue in downtown Honolulu.
Consul General Jamoralin also joined the Knights of Rizal officers and guests in congratulating this year’s recipient of the prestigious Dr. Jose P. Rizal Award, Dr. Charlie Y. Sonido, an active member of the Filipino community particularly the Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii (PMAH) for his civic work and medical missions for the benefit of the Filipino community both here and in the Philippines.
