The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, in partnership with the Knights of Rizal (KOR) Hawaii USA Chapter, commemorated the 120th Anniversary of the martyrdom of Philippine National Hero of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Philippine Consulate General on 29 December 2016.
The commemoration program started with a flag raising and singing of the Philippine national anthem by personnel of the Consulate General, members of the KOR and the Consulate’s consular services clients.
In his remarks, Consul Roberto T. Bernardo, Acting Head of Post, looked back on the life of Dr. Rizal and spoke of the Philippine national hero’s relevance today. He extolled the qualities of Dr. Rizal and urged the audience emulate him and to remember the contributions of the national hero to Filipinos.
Sir Danny Villaruz, Deputy Commander of KOR Hawaii USA Area Commander, on behalf of the KOR, gave his remarks for the occasion. He said that Rizal’s life is a constant reminder to all of us to fulfill our duties to our country and to lead in making a better tomorrow for generations to come.
Consul Bernardo and Sir Villaruz led the offering of the leis (flower garland) to the bust of Dr. Rizal to commemorate the occasion.
The Consulate General also served Filipino-style breakfast which the attendees partook of after the program. (END).
