To commemorate the feast of Sto. Nino, the Visayan Catholic Community organized the Annual Feast Day of the Holy Child Jesus, Santo Nino last Sunday, January 15, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Church in Kalihi, Honolulu. The celebration’s theme was “Innocence and Faithfulness leads to Holiness”. A holy mass celebrated by the Vicar General, Monsignor Gary Secor at St. Anthony’s Church, preceded the Sto. Nino procession around the church grounds and dinner inside the church compound.

Consul General Gina Jamoralin was invited to deliver her special message for the occasion. She praised the Filipino community gathered for their spiritual fervor and faith and encouraged them to continue the beautiful annual tradition of Sto. Nino fiesta as part of Philippine cultural and spiritual traditions. She remarked that religious traditions make the Filipinos unique and united. In his homily during the mass, Msgr. Secor also referred to the Filipinos’ strong spiritual faith and religiosity which have helped sustained the Catholic church in Hawaii all through the years, by filling up the Catholic churches every Sunday. He appealed to the young generations of Filipino-Americans in Hawaii to consider the religious vocation as many of the current Catholic priests in Hawaii are from the Philippines.

Dinner entertainment was provided by local students and artists who performed Philippine dances and songs (END).
