Dr. Richard Vuylsteke, the new President of the East-West Center, called on Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin on 21 March 2017. He was accompanied by Ms. Karen Knudsen, EWC External Affairs Director.
Established by the US Congress in 1960, the EWC serves as a resource for information and analysis on critical issues of common concern and promotes better relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of the US, Asia and the Pacific through cooperative study, research and dialogue.
Nearly sixty years of serving as a U.S.-based institution for public diplomacy in the Asia Pacific region, EWC has built a worldwide network of 62,000 alumni and more than 950 partner organizations.
Dr. Vuylsteke, who assumed as the Center’s President on 1 January 2017, succeeding Dr. Charles Morrison, is a former EWC grantee and staff member who rejoins the Center after several decades living in Asia and serving most recently as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
During the call, Dr. Vuylsteke and the Consul General explored possible opportunities for joint projects between the East-West Center and the Philippine Consulate General, focusing on education, Philippine culture and the arts, and community engagement. (END).
