100-year-old Matias Flores Dumo, a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, along with twenty (20) other applicants for dual citizenship, took his oath of allegiance to reacquire his Filipino citizenship at the Philippine Consulate General on 27 April 2017.
Born in Bauang, La Union on 1 April 1917, Mr. Dumo, or Tata Matias to his family and peers, was, according to his eldest daughter, Victoria, a World War II Filipino veteran who migrated to Hawaii in 1993. He became a naturalized American citizen that the same year.
The Philippine Consulate General also informed Tata Matias that as a centenarian, he is qualified to apply for the PhP 100,000 cash incentive given by the Philippine Government pursuant to Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016, signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in September 2016.
The Centenarians Act of 2016 pays tribute to all Filipinos who reach 100 years old, whether living in the Philippines or abroad in recognition of their longevity. The centenarians will receive letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a "centenarian gift" in the amount of PhP 100, 000. (END).
