The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, visited Hilo, Hawaii on 20 to 21 May 2017 to provide consular services to Filipinos on the island. Hilo is located in the County of Hawaii.
The County of Hawaii (commonly referred to as the Big Island, owing to its geographical size), is home to around 41,000 residents of Filipino ancestry, comprising 22% of the island’s population. Most of the Filipinos in the island are farmers and plantation workers.
The visit to Hilo was the second consular outreach to the Big Island for 2017 following the Consulate’s visit to Kona in January 2017.
The consular team, led by Consul Joyleen E. Santos, provided a total of 214 consular services which include passport, visa, civil registry, notarial and authentication, and dual citizenship services for Filipinos on the island.
The Consulate was also able to register 70 new overseas voters during the two-day outreach.
The activity was held in coordination with the Hawaii County’s Immigration Office and volunteers from the Filipino community in Hilo. (END)
