In commemoration of the 156th birth anniversary of Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine Consulate General, led by Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin, held a flag-raising and lei-laying ceremony by the Rizal bust on 19 June 2017 at the Philippine Consulate General.

The Knights of Rizal Hawaii Chapter also commemorated the event through its summer youth leadership program, the 2017 Rizal Youth Leadership Institute on 17 June, where around forty (40) Filipino American high school students attended and participated in engaging and dynamic teambuilding activities which aim to teach them leadership qualities of teamwork, resourcefulness, goal-setting, initiative and problem-solving.
