In commemoration of the 67th anniversary of the Korean War, the Philippine Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Honolulu and the Korean War Veterans Association, Aloha Chapter, organized a solemn Wreath and Memorial Ceremony in the morning of June 25, 2017 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl). The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu led by Consul General Gina Jamoralin offered a wreath during the ceremony together with the US Pacific Command, US Coast Guard, Hawaii Governor’s Office, Honolulu Mayor’s office, Consular Corps, Korean War veterans groups and religious organizations. The Consul General of Republic of Korea and Admiral Harry Harris Jr. US Pacific Command (USPACOM) Commander led the wreath laying ceremony.
In his keynote speech, Admiral Harry Harris Jr. paid tribute to “those brave men and women who answered the call of duty to serve and fight on the Korean peninsula. Korea reminds us that freedom is an idea worth fighting for – and if need be, an idea worth dying for. Korea reminds us that alliances matter.” “We remember our partners from the United Nations who fought and died during the Korean War – more than 3,000 were killed and 1,800 went missing in action – from nations in our region that included Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand and to the surprise of some, Japan”, Admiral Harris said.
