State of Hawaii Attorney General Douglas Chin spoke before members of Hawaii’s Consular Corps during a luncheon held on June 23, 2017 at the Pacific Club. The event was organized by the Consular Corps under the leadership of its current Dean, Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin.
Attorney General Chin talked about migration issues affecting the State of Hawaii . The state filed a lawsuit challenging the President’s executive order affecting travel to the United States of nationals from certain Muslim countries. Hawaii Governor David Ige appointed Chin as State Attorney General in January 2015. Since taking office, he has prosecuted high-profile cases including environmental ones. The son of Chinese immigrants, Chin graduated from Stanford University and received his law degree from University of Hawaii. When Hawaii hosted the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in 2011, Chin, then managing director for the City and County of Honolulu, oversaw the city operations. As Attorney General, Chin is known advocate for the rights of minorities and disenfranchised sectors of the population in the State of Hawaii.
Consul General Gina Jamoralin , on behalf of the Corps, thanked Attorney General Chin for accepting the invitation to speak before the Consular Corps. Consul General Jamoralin was installed as Dean of the Corps in February 2017 for a one year term. (END)
