The Cebuano Association of Hawaii Inc. celebrated its 32nd anniversary on September 16, 2017 with a Gala Dinner at Sunset Lanai Restaurant, Camp Smith, Honolulu with Philippine Consul General to Hawaii, Gina Jamoralin as its guest speaker.
Speaking on behalf of Foreign Affairs Secretary Allan Peter S. Cayetano who was also invited to the event, Consul General Gina Jamoralin updated the organization of the prompt response of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines under the able leadership of Secretary Cayetano in mobilizing the Philippine foreign service posts in the United States in providing relief supplies and repatriation of stranded Filipinos in Florida and Carribbean Islands who were affected by Hurricane Irma.
Consul General Jamoralin reported that more than two hundred Filipinos are scheduled to be repatriated to Manila from the Caribbean via chartered flights. Consul General Jamoralin also invited the participants to a briefing by the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HEMA) Administrator Vern Miyagi on the North Korea missile threat and emergency preparedness organized by the Philippine Consulate in Honolulu on October 10, 2017 for the Filipino community and Consular Corps members in Hawaii.
Mr. Raul Navasca, president of the Cebuano Association of Hawaii, Inc. in his remarks called for political unity among the Filipinos in Hawaii being the largest ethnic group in the state. The Cebuano Association of Hawaii is under the umbrella organization of the Congress of Visayan Organizations of Hawaii (COVO). Consul General Jamoralin led the induction ceremony for the new members of the organization. (END).
