The AFP Command and General Staff College Class 62 (AFPCGSC62) who is currently in Hawaii on a Foreign Academic Tour, paid a courtesy call on the Philippine Consul General on October 5, 2017 . The study tour is the third iteration in Honolulu, Hawaii since 2015. The Hawaii Group is headed by BGen Jess Estoesta AFP, the Asst Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, J1; assisted by Col Roger Luna Corps of Professors, and Col Leonidas Hidalgo PA(GSC), AFP Doctrines Center Commander and 15 AFPCGSC students.

The objectives of the Academic Visit of AFPCGSC62 are to broaden the student’s perspective on the military, socioeconomic, political and cultural environment and consequently, foster goodwill and friendship with their counterpart’s armed forces; to gain exposure on the military educational set-up of the United States; and to compare and contrast the military and educational best practices of both armed forces.

The students visited the Headquarters of USPACOM, USARPAC, PACFLT, PACAF, MARFORPAC, APCSS, Center for Excellence, and Hawaii National Guard where they were briefed on the respective unit’s mission, functions, organization among others. Briefings were also rendered by SOCPAC and JIATF-W at USPACOM.

The students were also able to observe and experience the Hawaiian life and culture by going to the Polynesian Cultural Center, visiting Pearl Harbor, the Pacific Aviation Museum, Army Museum and strolling along the famous stretch of Waikiki Beach.
