Philippine Consul General to Hawaii, Gina Jamoralin paid a farewell call on the Mayor of Maui County, Mr. Alan Arakawa on December 29, 2017. Consul General Jamoralin thanked Mayor Arakawa for the County’s invaluable support and cooperation to the Philippine Consulate General when it conducts its regular consular outreach services to Maui Island three times a year.
She cited the support and assistance provided by the Immigration Services Division of the Mayor’s Office led by Ms. Jan Shishido and her deputy, Mr. Curtis Smith and his staff during the Philippine Consulate’s outreach missions. The Maui County has administrative jurisdiction over the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai. Consul General Jamoralin also thanked Mayor Arakawa for the support of the County Office during the Consul General’s first ever visit to Molokai in 2015, which paved the way for the Philippine Consulate’s first ever consular outreach in Molokai the following year. Consul General Jamoralin was also the first Philippine Consul General to ever visit the small island of Lanai which has a small Filipino community as well.
She presented a certificate of appreciation to Mayor Arakawa for his support to the activities of the Philippine Consulate General and for promoting the welfare of the Filipinos in Maui County.
In the evening of December 28, she met with the Filipino leaders in Maui and staff of the Immigration Services Division of the Mayor’s Office who organized a farewell dinner. Consul General Jamoralin thanked them for their continuous support to the Philippine Consulate under her leadership and hoped that the same level of cooperation and support be extended to her successor.
Maui County hosts the second largest concentration of Filipinos in Hawaii, next to Oahu and hosts the most frequent number of Philippine Consulate’s consular outreach missions to the islands. END
